A trained attendant works the venik over the body: wafting waves of hot, aromatic air, then gently pressing and massaging the leaves against the skin. The heat opens the pores; the venik drives circulation and releases the leaves’ essential oils. It is, for many, the deepest and most restorative moment of a banya day.
